I was reading an online article about the TTIP (the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership), which is apparently now over, hailing victory for a campaign that once looked hopeless.

Except that the TTIP may be out but another treaty is waiting in the wings – the Ceta (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement). There is a very poignant ending to this article which is the object of this Thought for the Day and it is this:

“When you are told that the price of liberty is eternal vigilance, this is what it means.

This struggle will continue throughout your life.

We have to succeed every time; they have to succeed only once.

Never drop your guard.

Never let them win.”

George Monbiot
